ROSEMARY’S PROJECTS: I was bit by the felting, crochet, knitting and sewing bug and this is what I came up with…..
I made a couple felted “Yarn Bowls” and love how they came out.
Then I felted some of my jewelry bowl for the shop.
.
While sitting on my couch watching TV I decided to crochet a set of coasters that I think
came out pretty good if I may say so myself.
.
.
Next I decided to write a hat pattern and used
Plymouth Baby Alpaca Brush yarn to knit my sample.
Then I knit a baby sock and hat set along with a sock sample for the shop
using Plymouth Diversity sock yarn.
.
Next on my list was knitting one of my Cable Hat patterns using
Berroco Ultra Alpaca for a shop display
and then I used a Plymouth Free pattern for the hat sample with a
pom-pom using Plymouth Woca yarn.
.
My employee, Angela, and I made six of these cute yellow project bags
and some larger bags for the shop.
.
Then we made some Needle Holders that can hold your Circular or Double Points needles. We made some with 16, 20, 24, and 30 pockets that each have a flap that covers the needles to keep them in place. The outside is a quality upholstery material and we added a cord tie for closing.
Like I need to add more things to my to-do list…….but I love to sew too!
.

Rosemary’s “Yarn Shop” is the home of “GATHERING HANDS”
Here are some wonderful gals that knit all the time and very seldom is it for themselves. Doris, Pat and Theo are very generous with the time they devote to others. These are just some of the bears that Pat has brought to me!
Gathering Hands is comprised of knitters and crocheters who share a common goal of helping others through various projects. You don’t need to live close to be part of Gathering Hands…..Our hands can reach many!
Everyone is invited to be a part of GATHERING HANDS. You can help from your own home or your own knitting/crochet group and if in Maine or within driving distance of the Windham area please drop by and say hello.
“GATHERING HANDS” PROJECTS:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: I am now taking donation for the 2017/2018 seasons. If you can knit or crochet something to donate to one or all of my programs it will be very much appreciated.
OPERATION MAINE MILITARY FAMILY: (Now is the time to knit for the Military Families) My former program “Operation Homefront Kids” has been replaced with “Operation Maine Military Family”. The intention of this project is to make a difference in the lives of active duty Maine Military men & women whose families are living in Maine. I’m working together with the Steven’s Avenue Armory to provide knit and crochet items for the families at Christmas time. I can use anything that you think they would like from birth through adult. I have started collecting for the 2016 Christmas and will need all items turned in no later than December 1, 2016 in order that I can get them distributed in time. This is a nice way to say “Thank You” for your service.
OPERATION PRECIOUS BABY:
Preemie sweater, hat and bootie sets are made for the Maine Medical Center, Neo-Natal Unit. Once these sets are turned in to me, I give turn them over to Project Linus Cumberland York Counties where they match them with a little blanket/quilt and deliver them. If you would like to help with this project I have a free pattern that has three sizes that will fit from 1lb to 5 lbs.
OPERATION SUNSHINE BEARS: (I ALWAYS NEED MORE BEAR KNITTERS)
This is such a touching and fun project. I have a free one-seam knit Teddy Bear pattern available at the shop or by email at your request. The bears will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House and Maine Medical Child Life Program Barbara Bush Wing in Portland, Maine, and to Police and Firemen to give to children in crisis. These are wonderful Teddy Bears and I hope you will participate by making them too and help bring a smile to the face of a child. I want to give a very special “Thank You” to Eva McDonald who created this pattern and gave me permission to use and alter it for this project.
OPERATION RICHIE’S CAP: (IT IS TIME TO THINK LIGHT WEIGHT HATS FOR SUMMER)
This is a project for making chemo caps for cancer patients in memory of my friend, Richie Aaron. I have created a knit and crochet pattern and it’s free when you’ll make a cap to donate. This project continues to be such a success as I receive hats from all over the country from customers that have come by the shop or read about it on-line and mail them on to me. I encourage soft yarns for warm caps during winter months and cotton, bamboo, etc. for summer months to protect against the sun.
OPERATION WARM HANDS: (IN MAINE WINTER COMES SOON AND I WILL NEED MITTENS)
This is another wonderful project of making mittens for donation for the 2016-2017 winter season to those with a need. What a great small project for the knitter with little time and so worth while to a child with cold hands! I invite you to help in this project……it’s a great summer project too!
IF YOU KNIT OR CROCHET……CAN YOU HELP AND BECOME A PART OF GATHERING HANDS?
Just drop me an email: [email protected]
Together we can make a difference!
