Yarn Collection to Benefit the Women’s Center of the MCC

Local Yarn Store Day is April 27th, and we’ll be celebrating by featuring selected sales and refreshments throughout the day! Local Yarn Store Day celebrates independent yarn stores and their owners, and we’d love for you to stop in and say hi!

In addition to celebrating Local Yarn Store Day, we will be sponsoring a One-Day-Only “Yarn Drive” during the day to support the Women’s Center of the Maine Correctional Center in Windham, Maine.  29 women at the center have been knitting for a variety of donation programs in the area, and they are in need of more yarn to continue.  We’ll have a box right next to the front door to collect the yarn. The collection will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and is limited to just April 27th.

PLEASE NOTE: In order for the yarn to be used by the women at the Maine Correctional Center, ALL DONATED YARN MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL BALL BAND showing the fiber content and care instructions. Machine washable yarn is preferred. If you don’t have yarn at home to donate, we will also have some easy care yarn on sale for you to contribute. If you have yarn without the ball bands, we suggest that the local Goodwill Store in Windham or the Salvation Army in Raymond would be an excellent place to drop off those donations.

The Windham Eagle published a great article (“Operation Sunshine Bears…”) in their most recent issue and we hope you will take the time to read what wonderful things these women have accomplished.

The yarn collection event will be promoted not only in this newsletter, but on our shop’s website (www.maine-crafts.com) and on our Facebook page.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

Malabrigo Rios

Malabrigo Rios is a 4-ply yarn that is soft, strong, and washable! The plies help resist pilling and washability makes it fantastic for frequently-worn garments, housewares, and children and baby clothes. And like all Malabrigo yarns, it’s super soft and great for next-to-the-skin wear! Spun from premium superwash merino, it comes in an array of watercolor-multi, semi-solid, and variegated colorways.

Great for: Accessories, garments, baby and kids items, housewares, toys, cables, textured stitches, colorwork.
